Each month seems to be flying by faster than the previous one! This month we have had Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Calgary City Teachers' Convention, Family Day, 100 Day, Sister Madeleine, and Scientist in the School. Whew!
Along with that, we are learning about Penguins, building structures, Adding and Subtracting strategies and how to represent these using manipulatives, pictures and equations.
Earlier this month, your child came home with the log-in information for Zorbit Math. This is a great resource to reinforce Numeracy with your child.
A big thanks to our parent volunteers who were able to come out for our Scientist in the School today.
The students' final project was to construct a stool strong enough to support me. Yikes!
Enjoy the pictures below!

What has happened to January?! The time has flown by!
In Language Arts the students are learning about Beginning, Middle and End of stories, and how to write a sentence to summarize the BME. We heard many stories from Jan Brett and are now listening to Winter stories.
In Math we are working with Numbers to create an understanding of patterns, skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's, plus working with larger numbers. Check out today's work grouping counters by 2's, 5's and 10's.

In Science we are concluding our Unit on the Seasons. Hopefully your child will remember to tell you about 3 ways animals get ready for Winter (Migration, Hibernation and Adaptation).
In Social Studies we are going through the alphabet learning about our Community and our Responsibilities.
In Religion, we were learning about Jesus' Baptism by John the Baptist and our own. If your child has already received his/her Sacrament of Baptism, perhaps you could show them pictures, or items given and discuss the day with them.
Art is always a fun time with the students and we have some pictures below to view.
Over December we met with our Buddy Class (Grade 4 Brochu) to do a winter activity on the Polar Express and we watched the movie as a whole school. Hot Chocolate was delivered by Santa's Helpers, Mrs. Harrigan and Mr. Weisensel.

Welcome Advent!
We are at the beginning of our 4 Week Advent Season to Christmas. This week the students are learning about the Christmas Story and of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem.
Thank you for your great support in sending in items for our St. Vincent de Paul Food Hamper. It really helps our students learn the value of giving to others and being aware of need in others.
In Math we are using Rekenreks to help with subitizing numbers to 10, and creating different addition stories to 12. Ask your child about rekenreks - they're a fun way to learn basic facts.
In Science we are learning about the different seasons and how animals adapt for the weather. The terms hibernation, migration and adaptation are being discussed.
